Lyrics: The Bigger They Are
The Bigger They Are
by Wayne Hicks
David was a shepherd boy, a-watchin’ all his sheep,
When his father said to him, “Son, I’ve got a job for you to do!
“You’re gonna take a buncha food, and travel up into the valley
Where your brothers went to war, You’re a big boy now and I know I can trust you!”
So, he gathered up the groceries, and he put ’em in a wagon
And he set out on his way, Without a clue to what might lay in store,
Then, he got up to the valley, and he gave ’em all the food,
And he stayed to look around And that day, his life was changed forevermore!
(Chorus)
The bigger they are (the bigger they are),
The harder they fall (the harder they fall)
Just the way Goliath fell when David answered the call,
He trusted in God, (he trusted in God), That settled it all (that settled it all)
And he walked out to the battle just to watch that giant fall!
Now, Goliath was a big’n, there was never any bigger,
And as mean as he could be And he sent this challenge to the Israelites,
“Just send someone out to fight me, it’ll really be a battle,
And I’ll fight him fair and square,” But the soldiers all were trem-ble-ing with fright!
But it seems that little David was a-talkin’ to the king,
And said, “Hey, what’s goin’ on? I could whip this fellow on my own!”
So the king said, “Go ahead, then, if you think that you can do it,
And we’ll cheer you on your way!” So David went to meet him all alone!
Well, Goliath saw him comin’, and he couldn’t quite believe it,
And he said to all his friends, “Would you look, they sent some kid out after me!”
But David said, “Don’t worry, ’cause I’m plenty big enough,
And the Lord is on my side, He’s already given me this Victory!”
Well, Goliath, he got angry, and he gave a mighty roar,
As his friends all laughed and cheered, But then much to that big giant’s great surprise
Little David took a sling, and he whirled it in the air,
And he brought that monster down, With a stone that nailed him right between the eyes!
So, the Philistines were scared, and they just couldn’t quite believe
The kid beat their giant friend, He’d never lost a fight before that day!
But he was down and he was beaten, by a little shepherd boy
With a slingshot in his hand, Now there’s just one more thing I want to say!
When you think you got a problem, and it’s really big and ugly,
You don’t have to be afraid, Just remember how Goliath lost the fight,
And then be like little David, cast your cares upon the Lord,
And He’ll be right by your side To make sure everything turns out just right!
(Chorus)
The bigger they are (the bigger they are), The harder they fall (the harder they fall)
Just the way Goliath fell when David answered the call,
He trusted in God, (he trusted in God), That settled it all (that settled it all)
And he walked out to the battle just to watch that giant fall!
